Starting an Exercise Routine

Exercise is meant to be a celebration of what our bodies can do and not punishment for what we last ate.

We all know it can be hard to start and stick with a regular exercise routine, so we want to help make it fun!

The goal is to find any exercise that is fun for you and invest 15-60 minutes each day doing something active you enjoy, or something you’d like to challenge yourself to learn.

Exercise doesn’t have to be at the gym! Think outside the box: goat yoga, pilates, pickle ball, hoola-hooping, roller skating or simply taking a walk around the block.

A few tips to help you succeed:

  • recruit a friend to join you

  • track your steps or time - start a streak and maintain it!

  • get a deck of cards with an assigned exercise for each number and pull one card daily to mix it up

  • check out the many online workout videos available

  • create your favorite music playlist and walk (or dance!) to one or two of the songs a day

Why exercise? It has been shown that exercise of any kind:

  1. Improves cardiovascular health, while also strengthening bones and muscles.

  2. Boosts mood because it releases endorphins, which help combat stress and anxiety.

  3. Increases energy levels, helping combat feelings of fatigue.

  4. Improves sleep by promoting deeper sleep cycles that help the body regenerate overnight.

  5. Strengthens immunity, helping fight off illnesses that may come with the winter months ahead.

  6. Enhances cognitive function - exercise has been shown to improve memory, focus and clarity of mind.

If you move your body every day for 30 days, it’s likely to become your new exercise routine!
