Meet Patty, RN, Naturopath & Herbalist

Patty Shipley

Patty Shipley is a RN (Registered Nurse), Traditional Naturopath & Herbalist, and has been practicing in the Columbus, OH area since 1998. In 2002 she earned her naturopathic degree from Trinity College of Natural Health, and in 2011, she earned her RN degree from Columbus State Community College. She has also completed additional coursework in nutrition.

Patty has all patients begin with a Lifestyle Educator (Caitlin Pfeil or Francie Silverman), and prefers they master the necessary diet changes before embarking on next steps with her.

Why does Patty have you start with a certified lifestyle educator?

After more than 20 years in practice, Patty has found patients who work one-on-one with a Lifestyle Coach are much more likely to make a complete recovery. She has also observed that when patients start by optimizing diet and lifestyle, often numerous complaints have resolved by the time they’re ready to add Patty to their healthcare team. In many cases, patients make a full recovery while working solely with the Lifestyle Coach. This lifestyle-first approach is more cost-effective, and serves as a good demonstration of the impact of making healthy choices day to day.

  • Patty’s specialties are identifying and addressing chronic underlying imbalances within the body.

  • Patty has all patients begin with a Lifestyle Educator (Caitlin Pfeil or Francie Silverman). Once this initial intake and diet and lifestyle counseling is complete, patients can then schedule a follow up appointment with Patty Shipley.

Follow up (office or phone) appointments with Patty range from 10-60 minutes and are priced accordingly ($70-$285).

Patty’s Story:

“Years ago I suffered from migraines, clinical depression, severe asthma and rosacea. Conventional medicine had nothing to offer me except partial symptomatic relief, so I sought help from various alternative practitioners. Within only a few weeks of beginning a nutritional program, coupled with lifestyle changes, I began to feel like a new person.

It’s been many years since I’ve had a migraine and the rosacea has completely cleared up, even though I was told there was no cure for it. My depression faded away and I’ve experienced 90% improvement with my asthma symptoms. I’d say I feel like my old self again, but in truth, I had never felt this good before finding functional medicine!

What I was learning as I resolved life-long health issues felt critical to share, so I began coursework to learn how to guide others on their journey to improved health. I earned my certification as an herbalist in August of 1999, my degree in traditional naturopathy in 2002, and my RN in 2011. Ongoing self-learning, research, and functional medicine conferences keep me up-to-date on emerging science.

I can only assume you would like to feel a bit better than you do, and need help getting started. My advice is to consult with someone who has experience so you’re not wasting time and effort focusing on the wrong things. A professional alternative health care provider can take a more objective look at your situation and guide you on your journey to better health more quickly than you can do it alone. Let’s do this!” ~ Patty

Patty is also passionate about improving the air quality and helping to restore the ecosystems across Ohio. To that end, Patty founded Leaves for Wildlife, a native plant nursery, in Sunbury, Ohio.

Why native plants?

Most of our native insects and other wildlife can only digest plants native to our area. Unfortunately, native plants have largely been replaced in our landscaping by plants from other ecoregions. The resulting loss in habitat and food sources is a major driver of the decline in birds, butterflies and other wildlife. We can all be a part of helping preserve biodiversity for ours and future generations, by choosing native plants in our landscaping.
